Reclaiming Connection: Eva’s Journey Through Anxiety and TMS Therapy

Eva always knew something felt different about how she experienced the world. Social gatherings felt like too much. Her mind would spiral. She’d cancel plans, isolate herself, and feel the weight of guilt press down. "I had always known something was wrong with me... I would react to certain situations differently, or social gatherings differently, and I could never explain it," she said.

That confusion turned to clarity and healing after she discovered transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) therapy. Her story is one of self-discovery, reconnection, and the strength it takes to face anxiety head-on.

The Hidden Impact of Anxiety

Eva's anxiety crept into every corner of her life. At first, it was subtle; she’d cancel a dinner or stay quiet during a conversation. But over time, it grew more consuming. "My anxiety, just in general over the years, has gotten a lot worse. When it came to anything social, anything to do with my friends, I stopped talking to them or I would bail last minute on plans."

She didn’t feel like herself, nor did she feel like a good friend. The shame and guilt only made her anxiety worse, and it began affecting her relationship with her husband. "He's a social butterfly... and I always just felt like I was a burden on him."

That’s what anxiety does; it convinces you that you’re the problem. That your presence is too much, and that withdrawing is safer. But deep down, Eva wanted to feel connected. She just didn’t know how.

The Breaking Point

Anxiety didn’t just show up in Eva’s social life; it followed her to work, too. "The way that my mind works... it just goes wild and turns into this big frenzy," she said. "I would start not being able to breathe. I would start panicking. I’d stay silent. I would zone out. Sometimes at work, I would have to run to the bathroom, hide, and just try to collect myself and cry."

Eva had never even heard of TMS until she started working at Serenity Mental Health Centers. That’s when the seed of hope was planted. She saw firsthand what TMS therapy could do for patients. But still, part of her didn’t believe it would work for her.

Starting the TMS Journey

"I was super nervous," she admitted. "I had seen it done on patients before. I’d seen it work miracles. But with my anxiety, I just had a doubt… like, oh, it probably won’t work for me." That changed the moment she started her own sessions.

Tatiana, one of her Serenity TMS technicians, made her feel at ease from the very beginning. "We would talk, we would have heart-to-hearts all the time. My TMS sessions felt like therapy sessions," Eva said. "And it felt like something that I wanted to do every day."

Eva’s shift from avoidance to engagement was so massive that even her husband noticed. "Anthony would be like, 'That's so awesome, you never would do that before!' And I’m like, 'You're right, I never would.'"

Eva, who hadn’t reached out to her friends in years, found herself sending messages, checking in, reconnecting. TMS therapy for anxiety didn’t erase her emotions—it helped her understand them. And it gave her the ability to manage them.

Understanding and Controlling Anxiety

"The most important thing that I took away from TMS and how to handle my anxiety was how to control it," Eva said. "It’s definitely still there. But it’s not as hyperactive."

She now has space to respond rather than react. She can breathe through the storm. And, maybe most importantly, she feels supported. "I never even knew I had support, because my anxiety held me back from communicating with anyone."

Now, she talks. With her family. With her husband. With her friends. And with herself.

What Is TMS Therapy?

Transcranial magnetic stimulation is a non-invasive brain stimulation therapy that uses magnetic pulses to target specific areas of the brain associated with mood and anxiety. It’s especially effective for patients with treatment-resistant depression and anxiety disorders, offering an alternative for those who haven’t found relief through medication alone.

TMS therapy works by reactivating underperforming areas of the brain, helping restore balance and emotional regulation. Over time, patients report improved clarity, reduced anxiety, and a greater ability to engage with their lives. For Eva, TMS therapy in Phoenix didn’t just help… it changed her life.

Advocating for Others

Today, Eva is not only thriving, she’s become an advocate. "If you ever felt like you have these emotions and they’re just all over the place and you never knew why... if you do TMS, you will understand why you’re that way, and you’ll understand how TMS will help you."

Her words come from a place of truth. She saw the benefits of TMS in others. She experienced the transformation in herself. And now, she wants others to know that they don’t have to stay stuck.

"I think the fact that I had seen it, did it myself... like, I advocate for TMS. Anybody here. I love it. It’s amazing."

A Future of Connection

Eva’s story is one of rediscovery. TMS didn’t erase her anxiety, but it gave her the tools to manage it, the support to talk about it, and the confidence to rebuild the relationships anxiety had once stolen from her.

Today, she feels grounded. Connected. Empowered. And perhaps most of all—grateful. Because healing, for her, began the moment she stopped believing she had to live this way.
