Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
With a decade of experience in the mental health field and a Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Utah, Tanner Manwaring, DNP, PMHNP, brings both depth and heart to every patient he works with. He chose to focus his career on mental health because he believes that all aspects of health and wellness improve with the promotion and maintenance of a healthy, balanced mind.
Education and background
Tanner earned his Doctor of Nursing Practice in Psychiatric-Mental Health from the University of Utah. His path into the field started long before nursing school. He began by mentoring at a residential treatment facility for teenage boys, where he focused on building self-esteem through fitness and mental awareness. He went on to work as both an LPN and RN at an inpatient psychiatric hospital before completing his doctoral training. That step-by-step journey through every level of mental health care gives him a grounded, well-rounded perspective that his patients benefit from every day.
Care philosophy
Tanner’s care philosophy is built on the belief that true healing starts with the foundation of relationships and communication. He aims to alleviate suffering, encourage autonomy, and improve his patients’ lives by implementing evidence-based approaches that work for the individual. He works alongside each patient toward recovery, resilience, and fulfillment, empowering them as active participants in their own care.
His approach is collaborative, personalized, and always centered on the person in front of him. Tanner takes the time to listen, to understand, and to build a plan that reflects each patient’s unique needs and goals.
Personal interests
Born and raised in Utah County, Tanner and his wife are busy raising three little girls. Outside of work, he enjoys weightlifting, building things, woodworking, detailing cars, and traveling. One of his favorite adventures was a medical aid rotation in Samoa, an experience that deepened his perspective on service and care. That hands-on energy and love of making things better, whether it’s a project in the shop or a patient’s quality of life, is something he brings to his work every day.
What to expect
In sessions with Tanner, patients can expect a provider who is grounded, empathetic, and genuinely committed to their progress. He creates a welcoming space where you can share openly and feel confident that your care plan is built on trust, communication, and a shared commitment to your well-being.
