Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
So many people are suffering quietly, still showing up for everyone else while carrying more than anyone around them realizes. Tamara Martin-Brown, MSN, APRN, PMHNP-BC, has seen that pattern throughout her nursing career, and it is a big part of why she does what she does. As a psychiatric nurse practitioner at Serenity Mental Health Centers in Sugar Land, she creates the kind of space where patients finally do not have to carry it alone.
Education and Background
Tamara earned her Master of Science in Nursing and is board-certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner through the ANCC. Her clinical background spans psychiatric care, crisis intervention, medical-surgical nursing, neurology, pediatrics, transplant, emergency care, and critical care settings. Working with patients at so many different stages of life and health taught her something she carries into every psychiatric session: mental health does not exist in isolation. It lives in the body, in relationships, in the spirit, and in the daily effort to keep showing up. As a wife, mother, and person of faith, she understands that load intimately, and it shapes the warmth and patience she brings to her practice.
Care Philosophy
Tamara’s approach is guided by compassion, respect, honesty, and the belief that every person deserves to be treated with dignity. She combines evidence-based treatment with care that is genuinely individualized, because she knows that no two patients arrive with the same story or the same needs. She listens without rushing, asks thoughtful questions, and makes sure her patients are involved in every decision about their care. She explains treatment options clearly and in plain language, so that the plan you leave with feels like yours, not something handed down to you. Her goal, every session, is for patients to feel welcomed, understood, and genuinely hopeful.
Personal Interests
Outside the clinic, Tamara is drawn to anything that cultivates peace and beauty. She has a genuine love of fashion, home design, and wellness, and finds real joy in creating spaces, at home and in her practice, that feel calm and inviting. She values faith and personal growth as anchors in her own life and believes that caring for yourself is what makes it possible to truly care for others. She spends her free time with family, exploring new places, and savoring everything Houston’s food and culture scene has to offer. She is grounded in Houston’s Sugar Land community, a place she values deeply for its diversity, its family-centered energy, and its genuine sense of belonging.
What to Expect
From your very first session, you will find a calm, welcoming environment and a provider who is genuinely interested in your story. Tamara takes time to understand your symptoms, your history, your goals, and what has or has not worked for you before. There is no judgment here, only the kind of steady, collaborative support that makes it possible to move forward. You do not have to have it all figured out before you walk through the door. You just have to show up, and she will meet you there.
