Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
With over five years of clinical experience working with both adolescents and adults, Mikayla Butkus, PMHNP, brings a warm, grounded presence to every patient she sees and treats a wide range of conditions, including depression, anxiety, OCD, ADHD, PTSD, and bipolar disorder.
Education and background
Mikayla earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Southern Maine and her Master of Science in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing from Walden University. Her clinical background includes inpatient adult psychiatry, outpatient pediatric mental health case management, and psychiatric intake and assessment for both adolescents and adults. That range of experience gives her a strong foundation for meeting patients wherever they are in their journey and tailoring care to their unique needs.
Care philosophy
Mikayla’s approach to care is empathetic, holistic, and patient-centered. She focuses on all key aspects of mental wellness, including medication management, nutrition, sleep, stress reduction, and social connection, to support her patients in achieving long-term stability and growth. She believes that lasting change happens when the whole person is cared for, not just the symptoms.
She is committed to building collaborative, trusting relationships with her patients and empowering them to take an active role in their treatment journey. Mikayla takes the time to listen, to understand what each person is going through, and to work alongside them to build a plan that reflects their individual goals and experiences.
Personal interests
Outside of the clinic, Mikayla enjoys spending time with her fiancé and their Goldendoodle, Otis. She loves hiking, swimming, and strength training, and often unwinds through painting, reading, and exploring new restaurants. That balance of staying active and making time for creative, restful moments is something she values in her own life and encourages in her patients.
What to expect
In sessions with Mikayla, patients can expect a provider who is compassionate, thorough, and genuinely invested in their well-being. She creates a welcoming space where you can share openly and feel confident that your care plan is built around your whole self, not just a diagnosis.
