Dr. Tracy Crews brings decades of experience and a deep personal understanding to her work in mental health care. Having witnessed the impact of mental illness within her own family, she understood early on how critical compassionate support can be. When she began working directly with patients, she discovered a natural comfort and effectiveness in situations, confirming that this was the work she was meant to do. Her career spans private practice, inpatient hospitals, community mental health centers, and crisis facilities, giving her broad experience working with diverse populations. Beyond clinical work, Dr. Crews has been dedicated to mentoring emerging providers and has held supervisory and directorial roles, contributing to the development of community programs and the next generation of mental health professionals.
After serving in the Air Force, Dr. Crews pursued her medical training at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, where she developed a deep commitment to supporting individuals with mental health challenges. She completed her psychiatric residency at Good Samaritan Medical Center, now Banner University, where she served as Chief Resident in her final year. This experience further shaped her collaborative, patient-centered approach to care.
Dr. Crews is committed to providing compassionate, non-judgmental care tailored to each patient’s unique background and needs. She views her role as a collaborative partner, offering expertise and treatment options while respecting patient autonomy and the insights of their support network. Her approach centers on empowering patients to lead their care journey, with the care team, including family and professionals, supporting their pursuit of optimal mental health.
Dr. Crews truly appreciates living in Arizona for its ability to offer such a wide variety of environments within a short distance. She enjoys exploring new places and embracing fresh experiences whenever possible. Outside of her professional life, she spends time with family and friends, as well as her dog, Muggsy, whose name reflects his spirited personality and small stature, a nod to basketball enthusiasts. Her son, currently in high school, brings gentle strength and joy to her life.
When it comes to music, Dr. Crews can’t pick just one favorite; she loves everything from Fire and Rain by James Taylor and Landslide by Fleetwood Mac to Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen and the Hamilton album. Recently, she’s been listening to Hi Ren by Ren, which resonates deeply with mental health patients and practitioners.
She’s also a movie enthusiast with favorites including Forrest Gump, Titanic, The Matrix, and The Shining. Films she’s seen multiple times and appreciates reasons beyond their basic storylines. Dr. Crews is looking forward to joining the Serenity team for game nights, which promises to be both fun and competitive.
