About Dr. Sabina Imanbekova, MD

Psychiatrist

Dr. Sabina Imanbekova is a board-certified psychiatrist with specialized training in interventional psychiatry, including TMS and ketamine.

Education and background

A lifelong Salt Lake City resident, Dr. Imanbekova earned her bachelor's degrees in biology and psychology and her MD from the University of Utah. She then completed her psychiatry residency at the University of Iowa, a top 10% program, where she served as Chief Resident, trained extensively in TMS, ketamine, and ECT, and graduated with the Interventional Psychiatry track distinction. As a mom and non-traditional student from a multicultural background, Dr. Imanbekova has studied different languages, traveled widely, and worked in fields ranging from editing to research to cancer genetics. That breadth of life experience gives her a unique ability to understand the many formative factors in her patients' lives and to relate to individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Care philosophy

Dr. Imanbekova takes a comprehensive, holistic approach to each patient's care. She works to identify and address the possible contributing medical, developmental, psychiatric, and social factors to select the most appropriate treatment, whether that might be TMS, ketamine, medication, therapy, lifestyle changes, or a combination of several interventions. Above all, she believes in honesty, collaboration, and support for her patients throughout their journey.

Personal interests

Outside of work, Dr. Imanbekova enjoys spending time with her family and cats, reading, hiking, lifting weights, horseback riding, and taking in all the natural splendor Utah has to offer. She is also currently learning to play classical guitar.

What to expect

Patients can count on a thorough diagnostic evaluation that evolves over multiple visits to fully understand the complexities of each individual's history and needs. Dr. Imanbekova knows that it takes time, patience, and attention to truly get to know her patients. Her goal is to create a space where you feel heard and supported as you work together toward a treatment plan that fits your life.
