Psychiatrist
After 27 years of distinguished service in the U.S. Navy, retiring as a Commander, Dr. Jamon Holzhouser, MD, brings a depth of clinical and leadership experience that few providers can match. During medical school, he discovered a natural ability to help patients feel comfortable opening up about their mental health struggles, and that gift has guided his career ever since.
Education and background
Dr. Holzhouser earned his bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University before joining the military. He completed his medical degree at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and spent a year at Portsmouth Naval Medical Center before serving as a General Medical Officer with the Marine Corps in Okinawa, Japan. He then completed his psychiatry residency at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and went on to serve as both a hospital staff psychiatrist and an operational psychiatrist.
His 27 years of military service took him across the globe and through a wide range of clinical and operational settings, giving him the kind of perspective and composure that only comes from decades of caring for people in demanding environments.
Care philosophy
Dr. Holzhouser provides expert, patient-centered care for anxiety, OCD, depression, ADHD, PTSD, and other mental health conditions. His treatment approach is compassionate, collaborative, and personalized, ensuring each patient receives an individualized plan tailored to their unique needs and goals. He takes the time to truly listen and creates a space where patients feel comfortable sharing what they’re going through.
His extensive experience serving military personnel and their families gives him a particular understanding of trauma, resilience, and the mental health challenges that come with service, though he welcomes patients from all walks of life.
Personal interests
Outside of the clinic, Dr. Holzhouser dedicates his time to his family. He stays busy supporting his teenagers’ activities and enjoys exploring Utah’s beautiful outdoor scenery. That sense of presence, commitment, and balance is something his patients experience in every visit.
What to expect
In sessions with Dr. Holzhouser, patients can expect a provider who is steady, compassionate, and deeply experienced. He creates a welcoming space where you can share openly and feel confident that your care plan is built around your individual needs and goals.
