Psychiatrist
Driven by a commitment to making sure no patient gets left behind, Dr. Chad Terry, DO, is a psychiatrist who chose to join Serenity Mental Health Centers for the unique treatment modalities the practice offers. His path into mental health was shaped by firsthand observation of the system failing the people closest to him. That experience drives his unwavering commitment to ensuring every patient receives the best possible care and that no one gets left behind.
Education and background
Dr. Terry completed his undergraduate studies at Arizona State University and the University of Arizona before earning his medical degree at Touro University Nevada. He completed his psychiatry residency at the Detroit-Wayne County Health Authority, sponsored through Michigan State University, where he also earned a residency and teaching certificate. The University of Michigan co-sponsored his residency and provided him with a Master's in Public Health. During his time in Michigan, he also earned a fellowship at the Michigan Psychoanalytic Institute. After several years of practice, Dr. Terry returned to training and completed a fellowship in Adolescent and Child Psychiatry at UNLV, where he stayed on to teach. His background beyond medicine is equally varied, having worked as a ranch hand in Texas, a roofer in Florida, an Alaskan commercial fisherman, and an intern at a pharmaceutical company. Those experiences taught him to appreciate everyone and give him a unique ability to connect with people from all walks of life.
Care philosophy
Dr. Terry believes that truth is the foundation of effective care. He is committed to giving his patients complete honesty, even when the conversation is difficult, because he believes it is the only way for patients to truly succeed and embrace their treatment plan. He is a firm believer that proper treatment can only be achieved by allowing the patient to fully participate and help direct the course of their own care.
Personal interests
Dr. Terry has called the Phoenix area home since 1991, when he first moved to attend college. Though his education and career have taken him to other states over the years, the Valley always draws him back. He is a proud father of a son currently attending ASU and a daughter who will be following in a couple of years. Outside of work, Dr. Terry is an avid sports fan with a particular love for hockey. He also enjoys scuba diving and has never met a dog he didn't fall in love with.
