Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
Corey Wilkins, APRN, PMHNP-BC, became interested in mental health when he began working as a psychiatric technician at an inpatient hospital. He had the opportunity to witness remarkable changes in people's lives after they had reached some of their lowest points, watching patients enter in crisis, sometimes feeling hopeless, and leave with renewed stability and a more positive outlook. After witnessing these transformations in thousands of patients, he knew he wanted to play a greater role in the healing process.
Education and background
Corey earned his bachelor's degree from Provo College and his master's degree from Western Governors University. His path into mental health began years earlier, when he worked full-time as an EMT and volunteered as a firefighter in Southern California for four years. After moving to Utah, he started as a psychiatric technician at an inpatient hospital and eventually advanced to registered nurse on that same unit, caring for patients for more than five years. He also spent three years working as a trauma nurse in an emergency department. These experiences gave him a broad perspective on patient care and taught him the importance of meeting people where they are, particularly during times of crisis.
Care philosophy
Corey's practice is guided by honesty, kindness, evidence-based care, collaboration, and open communication. He believes the strongest therapeutic relationships are built on trust, mutual respect, and open dialogue, and he strives to incorporate those principles into every patient interaction. He is committed to always advocating for his patients and promoting what is in their best interest.
Personal interests
Corey has made Utah home and loves the beautiful scenery and the opportunity to experience all four seasons. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time outdoors, especially hiking in the mountains and camping. He also enjoys playing just about any sport, going to the movie theater, and eating plenty of popcorn. Most importantly, he values spending quality time with his wife and their three boys and being involved in his community.
What to expect
Patients can expect their first session with Corey to take place in a respectful, welcoming, and calm environment where they can openly discuss their concerns, experiences, and needs without judgment. Corey has a laid-back, nonjudgmental personality and genuinely enjoys meeting new people and helping them feel comfortable. He views treatment as a collaborative process, and together you'll identify meaningful and achievable goals, address where you are today, and develop a plan that supports where you want to be in the future.
