Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
With eight years in mental health nursing behind him, in settings from high-intensity inpatient units to outpatient care, Benjamin Ballard, PMHNP, brings a steady and practical presence to every patient he sees. What keeps him in this work is watching the progress someone can make once they have the right support.
Education and Background
Benjamin earned his RN and spent the next eight years as a mental health nurse, building experience across a wide range of psychiatric conditions and patient needs. Wanting to expand how he could support his patients, he returned to school and earned his Master of Science in Nursing as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner from Chamberlain University in 2025.
Those years shape how he practices. Working alongside patients through some of the most difficult periods of their lives gave him an appreciation for both the clinical and the personal sides of mental health care.
Care Philosophy
Benjamin believes that good mental health care starts with feeling heard. He works to create a comfortable, judgment-free environment where patients can be open about what they are experiencing, even when those conversations are difficult.
Treatment works best, in his view, when the patient and provider build it together, which makes honest feedback part of the process, not an afterthought. His approach is grounded in science and evidence-based medicine, and flexible enough to account for the fact that no single treatment works for everyone. If something isn't working, he wants his patients to say so.
Personal Interests
Benjamin loves living and working in Utah for the balance it offers, incredible outdoor experiences on one side and everything you need close by on the other. Outside of work he is usually outdoors on an adventure with his family. He also paints tabletop miniatures, a hobby that lets him slow down, be creative, and work with his hands.
Benjamin and his wife have four children, including twins who arrived recently. A growing family has deepened his appreciation for taking care of yourself and the people you love.
What to Expect
In sessions with Benjamin, patients can expect a comfortable and welcoming environment where your experiences and concerns are taken seriously. Your first visit is a chance to get to know one another, talk openly about what you're going through, and name what you hope to get out of treatment.
Treatment is not something you have to figure out alone. Benjamin works alongside you, welcomes honest feedback at every point, and makes adjustments when they are needed, to help you find a path toward feeling better and living the life you want.
