Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
With nearly a decade of nursing experience spanning medical-surgical, ICU, and OR settings, Avis Holmes, PMHNP, brings a whole-person, trauma-informed approach to mental health care. She combines deep clinical expertise with genuine empathy, creating the kind of space where patients feel safe enough to begin healing.
Education and background
Avis earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Brenau University and her Master of Science in Nursing in Psychiatric Mental Health from Valdosta State University. Her passion for mental health care was strengthened during a residency at the VA, where she gained critical experience working with veterans and individuals in both acute and long-term psychiatric care. That foundation, built across some of the most demanding clinical environments, gives her a steady, confident presence that her patients benefit from every day.
Care philosophy
Avis treats a wide range of conditions using evidence-based care. Her approach emphasizes collaboration, cultural sensitivity, and patient autonomy. She believes that every person’s story matters, and she takes the time to understand not just what her patients are experiencing, but who they are and what matters most to them.
At Serenity, Avis creates a safe, supportive space where patients feel heard, respected, and empowered to take an active role in their care. She is committed to personalized treatment plans that honor each individual’s unique journey and support meaningful, lasting progress.
Personal interests
Outside of the clinic, Avis is a proud sports mom who enjoys spending quality time with her husband and two children. She loves football, traveling, outdoor activities, and creating lasting memories with family and friends. That sense of connection and joy is something she carries into the care she provides every day.
What to expect
In sessions with Avis, patients can expect a provider who is warm, culturally attuned, and genuinely invested in their well-being. She creates a space where you can share openly and feel confident that your care plan reflects your values, your goals, and your unique path forward.
