About Andrew Nichols, NP

Andrew Nichols, NP has over 10 years of healthcare experience spanning both military and civilian nursing. Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Andrew brings a sense of community to everything he does, and that same grounded, personal care carries into every patient interaction at Serenity.

Education and Background

Andrew earned his advanced practice degree from Texas State University and pursued specialized training in psychiatric mental health care. He served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, working as a Critical Care and En Route Care Nurse at Naval Hospital Okinawa and with the 3d Medical Battalion.
He joined Serenity drawn by the practice’s commitment to interventional treatments, including TMS and ketamine therapy, that go beyond conventional options to offer patients real, evidence-based paths forward.

Care Philosophy

Andrew approaches each session by staying present and grounded during even the most difficult moments. He meets every patient with understanding rather than judgment, and with care that is guided by clarity, honesty, and a genuine belief that treatment works best as a collaborative process.

What to Expect

In your first visit, Andrew will take time to understand what has been going on and what matters most to you before anything else. From there, you will build a plan together, one that feels manageable and effective. He listens closely and makes sure nothing important gets missed.

Personal Interests

When Andrew is not with patients, you will likely find him at the gym, reading a book, or practicing mindfulness. His greatest joy, though, is time with his kids, including volunteering at their school where he leads science experiments and happily takes on lunchtime duty.

About Dr. Philip Yam, MD

Dr. Philip Yam, M.D. is a board-certified adult psychiatrist at Serenity Mental Health Centers. With over 12 years of clinical practice, Dr. Yam has provided evidence-based treatment for thousands of individuals. He offers all his patients a welcoming visit and treats everyone with respect, dignity, and privacy.

Dr. Yam’s interest in healthcare started in his youth when he volunteered at a local nursing facility for the elderly, and further in college when he participated as a volunteer firefighter/EMS responder for the Ithaca Fire Department. He went to medical school at the New York Medical College in Valhalla, NY where he completed clinical rotations in the busy hospitals of New York City. As a recipient of the Armed Forces Health Professions Scholarship Program, Dr. Yam attained a Naval Officer Commission, which led to his psychiatry residency training at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD.

During Dr. Yam’s time in the U.S. Navy, he served as the Department Head of Behavioral Health at the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base in New Orleans, Louisiana, and later as the Head of Embedded Mental Health at Mayport Naval Station in Jacksonville, Florida. As an avid teacher for medical students, nurse practitioner students, and physician residents, he also served as Assistant Professor of Psychiatry for the Uniformed Services University School of Medicine.

Dr. Yam aims to connect with every patient seeking his care. His philosophy is based on the doctor-patient relationship being the vehicle to recovery. At Serenity, he is glad to offer the latest and best treatments available, including medication management, ketamine therapy, and TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation), which are all available in-house at the beautiful, relaxing, spa-like clinic at Serenity in Nocatee, Florida.

In his free time, Dr. Yam enjoys sports, being outdoors, and time with his wife and children. His favorite places to travel include visiting Hawaii, Italy, Islands in the Caribbean, and Japan. Dr. Yam also enjoys watching football and is a commissioner of two Fantasy Football leagues with his friends and peers.
