About Dr. Joshua Lotfallah, MD
Dr. Joshua Lotfallah brings a warm, easy-going approach to psychiatry that puts patients at ease from the very first visit. Patients often describe him as approachable, always smiling, and genuinely easy to talk to. He prefers a first-name basis and believes that feeling comfortable with your provider is the foundation of great care.
Education and Background
Dr. Lotfallah earned his biochemistry degree at Queen’s University in Canada before completing medical school at St. George’s University. He then completed his psychiatry residency through the joint University of Nebraska–Creighton University program in Omaha, followed by a geriatric psychiatry fellowship at the University of Florida, a distinction that allows him to offer specialized care for older adults. It was during a psychiatry rotation at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn that he first discovered his passion for mental health.
Before moving to Orlando and joining Serenity, Dr. Lotfallah built a well-rounded clinical foundation in South Bend, Indiana, where he spent four years working across inpatient, outpatient, and consultation settings.
Care Philosophy
Dr. Lotfallah is guided by the principle of doing what’s right for each patient, with transparency, respect, and patient well-being at the center of every decision. He makes it a point to check in multiple times during each session, asking if there’s anything else on your mind, any questions you haven’t had a chance to voice, or anything you see differently. Patient perspective matters, and he wants to make sure nothing gets missed.
Personal Interests
When he’s not caring for patients, you can find Dr. Lotfallah enjoying everything the Orlando area has to offer. He and his family are regulars at Disney and Universal and enjoy golfing across Florida’s many courses. He tries to make it to the beach as often as he can; Cocoa Beach is his go-to for a quick trip to the coast, but Siesta Key holds the top spot as his all-time favorite.
What to Expect
In your first session, Dr. Lotfallah takes the time to learn about the whole person, your relationships, family life, work, and any previous experiences with therapy or medication. He carefully screens for a range of conditions to make sure the diagnosis is as accurate as possible. From there, he walks you through every option available, whether that’s medication, TMS, ketamine, or other approaches, explaining side effects, timelines, and what to realistically expect. The goal is for you to leave feeling informed, empowered, and confident in the plan you’ve built together.
